When people ask me when the best time to photograph a newborn, I often struggle with what to say. Sometimes it may be under two weeks, but sometimes, it’s not possible due to various situations. Maybe your little one was in the NICU, or maybe you needed more time to heal. Maybe life got crazy and you just didn’t think about it. Either way, I always say not to stress it. Some of my FAVORITE infant sessions were with older newborns. The weeks go by fast, they sure do feel like “newborns” even at a few months old.

Take sweet miss Amelia here from a recent Columbia newborn session. She was 16 weeks when we met and it couldn’t have been better. Not only were her parents more in a routine so we could somewhat predict her happy time, but she was alert enough to give me some beautiful expressions and a few great smiles.

Truth be told, 3-4 months is one of my favorite age groups. It’s when we can get a mix of sleepy shots and beautiful alert expressions.

I loved that they let me do my thing. We did a mixture of posed on blankets and lifestyle photography in her beautiful nursery.

Just *some* of my favorites from her in home newborn session.
