I spent a good portion of my career as a Baltimore pregnancy photographer working with moms in my studios or outdoors. I always loved what I was capturing for families, but I really wanted to get more creative and personal with expecting moms. You spend a good amount of your pregnancy in your home, daydreaming about what it would be like to bring your baby home to that house. So it only makes sense to have your pregnancy documented with an in home maternity session.
Choosing a Baltimore Pregnancy Photographer to Come to Your Home
If you’re anything like me during your pregnancy, you spend a lot of time daydreaming about what it would be like to bring your new baby home to the house you’re in. I used to lay awake at night and picture what it would look like to see a baby in the basinet I had set up by my bed. How it would feel to rock her to sleep. How tiny she would be in that big crib in her little nursery that I worked so hard on. So many beautiful thoughts.
This is why I really love photographing maternity sessions in the home. I’m able to capture a little glimpse of those daydreams.
Benefits to an In Home Maternity Session
Oh let me count the ways! Actually, I’ll probably just do some because there are SO many!
- Access to your whole wardrobe for clothing changes and last minute ideas
- Personalized to YOU
- More meaningful
- No worries about the weather, or it being too hot/cold.
- Other children are in their element
- We can get more intimate. I love open belly and half dressed maternity photos. While we can do this outside, many moms feel more comfortable with this in their home.
- Did I mention yet that this is the house you’ll be bringing your baby home to?
I could go on and on, and like I said, I’ll be posting more about this. I may have mentioned it before, but I lost my website a couple years ago and then COVID hit, so I am blogging my tail off. So many things to write about so I’m sure I’ll come back to this topic often because I’m so passionate about in home maternity sessions.
In the meantime, a few more favorites from a recent Baltimore City family. Baltimore row homes have amazing light in the front and back typically so I love to hang out by windows and capture elements of the home as well. Remember, I wrote about this before but when you book a maternity session, we can use as much or as little of your home as you’d like. I have had plenty of sessions where the parents wanted an in home session but were adamant about not including much of the actual home. In that case, we use a blank wall or backdrop. Granted, that’s only happened a handful of times because I prefer showing you how cool your home looks when I photograph you with a nice shallow depth of field. The colors just compliment everything when it blurs nicely. No need to have the Instagram perfect home. Very VERY few people do. It’s all in the connections.
Oh and one more thing. If you have another child at your maternity session, you can bet I will make them feel special with their own portraits that day too. After all, this is a really special milestone for them as well.
I meet their little guy this week and couldn’t be more excited!
Are you a Baltimore or Annapolis expecting mom thinking about scheduling your own Baltimore Pregnancy Photographer? I’d love to talk more about capturing YOUR story.
