Kim Whipps is a Baltimore and Annapolis newborn photographer, specializing in lifestyle family photography both indoors and outdoors.
A little back story, but I unfortunately lost 10+ years of blog posts and ALL of my website in a hosting crash back in 2017. Life and work got in the way and it’s taken me quite some time to build it back up. So, along the way, you’ll be seeing a mix of new sessions and older ones as I build my blog back up and try to climb that google ladder once again.
This little fella was such an angel and was recently featured in a blog post about in home family sessions. I was so excited to go back and see how much he’s grown as I follow his mama on Instagram anyway so could see just how happy he is!
Luke’s mom is the good friend of a group of ladies from a wonderful veterinary hospital named Everhart Veterinary Hospital in Pasadena Maryland. I’ve worked with many of their staff for years, from the start of my career. Needless to say, I was really excited to meet yet another amazing Dr from Everhart!
As a posed studio photographer for SO many years, it has been hard to break the habit of multiple newborn poses and props, but it has been incredibly rewarding letting all of it go. I can see it in the images, and feel it during the sessions. The process is so much more relaxed for baby and mom.
We start each session with natural poses of your baby on a neutral blanket. No crazy props or origami poses. They typically love to be gently swaddled on their back or side so we roll with that and they love it. No fussing, no need to use a pacifier. No overly fed bellies to get a pose. We follow baby’s lead.
And of course, I have to grab some detail shots as well. I love their tiny little toes and soft eyelashes!
We also will photograph some in the nursery if you have one, but if not, that’s ok too. We get plenty of variety around the house by windows.
Annapolis Newborn Photographer – What to Expect
As I mention on my info page, there is no need to worry about having a Pinterest perfect home. We can use as much or as little of your home as you’d like. Some of my favorite newborn photos are taken by a window or my giant soft-box if you don’t have enough window light or it’s raining heavily that day. You never need to worry about having great home decor or even decor at all!
When you expose for skin, the window light blows out leaving a beautiful white light as a background. Pure and simple images are always classic. We can create these types of images in any home, even without light.
This is just a little peek inside Luke’s session, but if you would like to see a full gallery, send me a message and I can show you some examples of what to expect inside a newborn session in the Annapolis area.
If you’re an expecting mom or have welcomed a new baby and you are looking for an Annapolis newborn photographer, I would love to talk with you! To see more of my maternity & newborn portfolio please feel free to reach out and ask any question you can think of.
