Columbia Md Maternity Photographer | Outdoor Winter Session

Sarah and her husband were so laid back and relaxed for their outdoor maternity session this March. The weather is always a little back and forth during this time of year! If you’re looking for a Columbia Md maternity photographer, outdoor sessions are still an option in the late winter, as long as you can be flexible with the weather. 😉

As a Maryland newborn and family photographer, I’m used to major fluctuations in weather and needing to be on my toes when it comes to rescheduling for rain, wind or really cold. In this case, we had a little bit of everything!

I was really looking forward to meeting Columbia based mom Sarah for a maternity session at one of my favorite Howard County parks. As the day got closer, the weather took a turn for cold, very windy and a decent chance of rain.

I stalk weather for every family, days leading up to the session so we can have a back up plan without last minute disappointment. In this case, it looked like it was going to rain every Saturday morning for 3 weeks anyway. Both mom and dad were anxious to get out some pregnancy announcements so we decided to take our chances one early Saturday morning.

Needless to say, it was COLD and WINDY.

Both of them were such troopers, and I’m serious, it was WINDY. My poor fingers went numb after about 10 minutes and I could tell Sarah was cold, so I suggested we wrap things up and meet one evening the following week when the forecast was calling for much warmer temps.

I’m so glad they took me up on it!

I know how much effort goes into prepping for a session, but I promise, it’s worth being flexible and understanding when it comes to weather changes. I’m so grateful I somehow attract such laid back, go-with-the-flow families because it’s never an issue when I tell them the weather shifted on us and we have to adjust. While it can be an inconvenience at times, you’re going to have these photos for the rest of your life, but you won’t remember (or care) that your date had to be moved back a few days because the weather wasn’t ideal. Promise.

This first set was a few favorites from our super chilly morning. She looks amazing but you can see the difference in the wind once you move into the next series.

Same outfits and  same adorable couple, just better weather, made all the difference in the world. Just some of the very large gallery that was delivered to this adorable family of 3. I can’t wait to meet their little one soon!

If you’re an expecting mom considering a Columbia Md maternity photographer to document your pregnancy, I would love to talk with you! The best time to photograph your pregnancy is whenever you are ready, but typically we suggest between 30-37 weeks. The earlier the better if you are considering photos outdoors so we have flexibility with Maryland weather.
